How to ask people to be a vocalist

Hello all!
For those who don't know already, I'm a high school (secondary school) hobbyist who loves to make noise (with my machine... I'm relatively quiet in person).
School will start up pretty soon so I'll have an opportunity to look for vocalists!
My only problem here is, how does one go about asking someone to be a vocalist? It seems fairly awkward to me to walk up to someone and say "hey, wanna sing for me?". I mean it's a cute pickup line in some cases but it feels weird in the sense I'm after.
Thanks in advance!

You could try posting an ad on bulliten boards in local music stores. Or try online ad sites, like Craig's List.dakkra wrote:Hello all!

Doc makes a good suggestion dakkra; however, you may want to consider answers to your ads will likely be from people wanting paying gigs.
Since you are still in school, it may behoove you to approach students in the music classes. Also post your requests and/or requirements at the school bulletin board. Speak with the music instructors.
Better yet, approach those involved in choir.
I would not feel emabarressed to suggest to another I would like to collaborate such an endeavor. You will be surprised how willing another involved in music is to participate.
Be sure to host "tryouts" and let them know your plans during the interviews.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Good luck!
Cheers!

BTW - there's no rule that says you have to find someone across the street. You have a vast universe at your fingertips
With today's technology you may find someone willing on another continent. How neat would that be?
Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestions!
I'll look into asking some of my choir friends. They're usually pretty nice to work with!
If I ever make a budget for music, i'll look into posting out on music boards if my friends decline my offer.
Thanks again DocAtlas and Dsan!
