I've found ultimate guitar's to not be the best. But they pay royalties and will probably be around for a while.

I have a huge book of Van Halen tabs my friend bought. Books are still an option.

http://www.mysongbook.com/ is also a good source for payware but they lack a serious jazz collection.

In regards to books I've got close to 100 song books dating back to the 60's (used to be more) I've been collecting them since the 70's. They are rarely accurate and most are simple fake book notation

I would rather just figure pieces of music out for myself. Songbooks, tabs, etc. are so often full of mistakes or in the wrong key that I just don't bother. I might go look for lyrics online, but rarely tabs.

That's the one I use most but I get some mileage out of http://www.songsterr.com/ and Ultimate Guitar using their android apps.
