First post here as well as totally new to the modular world. That being said, I am sure something in my setup is lacking, which is why I can't get it to work.

Basically, I am starting out a modular drum machine. I followed the Expert Sleepers website tutorial for calibration in Ableton to no avail. I have the outputs of my Ultralite running directly into the "Gate In" of the BD909, and the "BD Out" running directly to an input on the Ultralite. I have never gotten any sound from the BD909.

I also heard of people running pulse samples from Simpler to trigger modules, but I have not gotten that to work either. I may just break down and get a MIDI > CV unit because this getting frustrating. But I have heard that Silent Way has greater possibilities when I decide to expand beyond drum modules.

Am I missing a necessary module in my chain? It seems running the Live track's output directly from the Ultralite into the gate in of the modular should work, no?

Hopefully this has not been a garbled mess of incoherence. Cheers, all!

Why do you need to calibrate at all, if you're just triggering a drum?

Do you have any other modules e.g. a VCO?

Well, that was my my thought as well, but I figured I would start with the tutorial directed at Ableton. And the ES trigger plugin (which the site says is useful for triggering drum modules) did absolutely nothing as well. I have no other modules. Right now I am just interested in building a drum rack, so a VCO is down the line for me.

If you just load the Voice Controller plug-in and send it MIDI, you should see a very clear gate signal on the right side of the track. Route that (as a stereo pair) out to the Ultralite (remembering that the output numbers will be off by 2) and you should be in business.
