MIDI sync hosts and delays

Hey all,

For the past while, I've been trying to iron out an ipad software setup for a pair of stage vocalists. They want to be able to punch-in tempo-synched delays in a live band setting. They'd like to use a midi controller, like a keyboard or a foot pedal, to tap in the tempo at the start of a song, and then turn on/off the delay unit with another button/etc. Unfortunately, this is proving deceptively difficult for myriad reasons.

So what I'm currently looking for is an app that can tie a BPM tap to an external controller, and then send out that MIDI clock(?) to other apps. In theory, then they'd be able to punch in two separate delay units that work in time with their live drummer.

Are there any apps that can do this? Either from delays that accept a clock, and a MIDI-assignable bypass, or from whatever can do a tempo tap from an external controller, and get the other apps on the same tempo?

I've never tried out MIDI sync stuff, so this is all new grounds for me. Any shared experience would be valued, and specific app suggestions would really help. I've searched myself and have only run into problems, lots of trial and error.

Still looking for a way to secure external-midi-assignable tempo tap + sync, in order to get some timed delays.

Aha. But I just found out that Nic at Audeonic, the maker of MIDIBus, said he'd be implementing external MIDI tap into the program. Looks like I've got my master clock.

As for delays, I've already got Virsyn Tap, which features MIDI sync(and is overkill for the task at hand), and I'm told AUFX:Dub may also be a solid option.

So this looks like the system I'm going to be exploring, as soon as this update to MIDIBus is implemented.

But I'm still very interested in the kind of setups that others are using, when it comes to midi sync, delays, or use of ipad with a drummer on stage.
