Band/singer you've heard for first time recently, makes you think 'hurrah!'

Depends how recently. Within the last 6-12 months or so, I'd say The Wytches, and Gazelle Twin.
With the Wytches, its the sheer panache and swagger with which they pull off something which otherwise would awkwardly teeter on the gauche. Instead they manage to deliver a rather wonderfully gothic (not Goth) grungy brian-jones-stones psychedelia.
Gazelle Twin just f**king kills it. EDM tropes in there, but doing something that hearkens back to the old (proper Sheffield-days) industrial when it came from experimentalists and performance artists. Brutal, dark, and glorious.

I'll now check out the rest of the Wytches catalogue in particular, 'cos they fit my current mood very well.

Heard for the first time even if an older act? In that case, I would say Discharge. I knew of them, but hadn't heard any of their stuff until recently when I checked out Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing.

Ghost!!!
They're not new, but I listened them for the first time last week.
I remember they've caused a great frenzy here in Brazil in the last Rock in Rio festival, but I didn't care cause I think they're just another generic death/black metal band.
But NO!!! They're really good! The sound is 90% 70's hard rock! I can hear a VERY STRONG similarity with other band called Black Bonzo, and as long as Ghost members never reveals his identities (hummm)...

Not quite a 'hurrah' band for me, but I bought Opus Eponymous last month, and its not bad... fits in with some of the recent spate of retro 70's-ish sorta-horror-movie stuff that Ive been picking up of late, pinnacle of which would probably be Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, and Goat, both 'hurrah' bands of a couple of years ago.alvfaria wrote:Ghost!!!
