OK, OK I apologize. I didn't give enough detail in my last post and I didn't contact support because I'm not sure how.

I have been using MUlab Free version for ages - but I'm useless at all the stuff all you on here know about and really am not a technology person (my son set it all up for me and I just play music). He's not available for me to contact just now so I tried to fix things on my own. I have now managed to get the key to work. I'm in MulabUL 64 bit and I even managed (12 hours this took) to copy over my 'racks' from the free version, set up asio4all and get the thing to work!

However my problem now is the sound used to come out of my speakers/headphones now it comes straight out of the laptop speakers and I can't get it to 'recognize' the headphone socket as it were. Even when I plug in the headphones it still just comes out of the speakers, Can anyone help?

Where do you plug your headphones in?

You must did an error since when you plug your headphones right it doesn't matter which program or whatever is running on the laptop the sound should come out of the headphones because the speakers then automatically turn off.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

just in the headphone jack as usual. The old free version works fine - comes out of the headphones no problem but as soon as I switch to MUlab UL it comes out of the laptop speakers - even if I have headphones plugged in as normal. On the free version under output controls there's an option to select output as headphones on UL there isn't.

I don't use MuLab so cannot say with certainty, however, it sounds like MuLab is using the audio devices you have set up in your Windows OS. (I assume Windows since you have not specified your system specs. It is always a good idea to include specs when asking "how to" questions on forums. See my sig for more information.)

This may help you along, at least I hope so:

From you post, it sounds like you have not properly set up the audio in MuLab. This document from Mulab may also be of help to you:

If I may suggest, Paul, it sounds like you are frustrated and this is the worst case scenario. I strongly recommend stepping away from the computer, calm down, maybe have a cup of coffee and relax.

Frustration is your worst enemy when it comes to computing. Actually, everything is quite simple if you put things into perspective - the computer is dumb. It will only respond to the commands you give it.

Come back to it once you have recovered and just keep an open mind about it.

Many here are quite willing to help so you will have somewhere to fall back to. Help us to help you though. Provide as much information as you can.

Is it safe to say this is using Windows 10?

I ran into the same issue after upgrading to Win 10 on my wife's laptop. Searching (google/bing) it seems to be a common problem (where sound continues to play through the speakers but no sound from the headphones) but requires some more info about your system to advise on how to fix.

For her laptop, there was a pop-up message each time she plugged the headphones in that allowed us to resolve it (but I'm assuming you are not getting a pop-up message when plugging in your headphones).

I'm only bringing this up because this may have absolutely nothing to do with MuLab, but could be an operating system issue.
