Maximum Parallel Power

Parallel compression is a key ingredient that has been used by top mixers for years, but up until now, it has always required complex routing and increased clutter in your mix project to be able to utilize it on every track. Many compressors have a mix knob for blending the compressed signal with the dry signal, but we have found that this just doesn’t give enough control to really make use of the extensive power of parallel compression.

With individual wet and dry faders, along with an intuitive yet powerful EQ section, it won’t take long to recognize how much you’ve been missing out on. After using Manic Compressor on our projects, we realized that we have been missing out on a whole new world that we didn’t even know existed with compression.
6 Different Compressors

Even with so many good compressors out there, we find that it’s cumbersome to switch back and forth between different compressors with different settings trying to find the exact match for your track. With Manic Compressor, you can quickly switch between 6 different compressors without having to match settings.

Because Manic Compressor was designed from the ground up to be used in parallel, we were able to make some compressor modes the really really shine in parallel.
Built for Abuse

With Manic Compressors innovative parallel design and Loudness Relief, this compressor was built to be abused. Subtle compression is a thing of that past (unless you want it, of course). Manic compressor lets you put your settings to maximum carnage and then ease it off with it’s unique Loudness Relief knob, which softens the compression artifacts even under super heavy load.

I fear Boz became tattooed to subserve rather an Elton John running gag
and his entire creations are recognized a bit further from the fence.

I dig the reason for the creation and concept of Manic Compressor,
particularly for all those who become infected by the Scheps virus of parallel compression.
In this case Manic Compressor can replace plenty of compressors, eq`s and inconvenient settings.

Actually I wonder why he is the first dev
coming up with a combined comp, eq and mixer setup for parallel compression ?

So far my pros:

- quick tab browsing through all compressors at same settings
- the unit shows how hard this technique can be pushed with good results
- low, low, low cpu
- no phase issues (like potentially on aux setups) with build in eq and mixer
- comfortable workflow and variety of compressors for any kind of parallel compression


cons (not really serious ones, more of a note):

- eq can become fiddly when looking for precise work on frequencies
- additional plugins (i.e. saturation) must offer parallel settings for inserts
- way too short evaluation time for purchase at intro price
- intro price could be more extended to cross month of Dec for budget users


It is a very interesting plugin and I would love to read some more impressions.

I'm fully in love with this compressor.
One of the strength is its integrated tone control that could be seperated for Wet/Dry signal.
A huge workflow improvement, easy to use and sounds great also without parallel compression.
I wonder that it don't get more attention here.

guess elton already had enough delays, as boz halved the price. i wonder how many bought in at the deluxe level, and how many of those feel happier that they did

I fear I have to say the listed cons became serious
and I deleted Boz Digital Labs from my dev and shopping list.

cons (not really serious ones, more of a note):

- way too short evaluation time for purchase at intro price
- intro price could be more extended to cross month of Dec for budget users

I opened up a discussion at GS to make aware of budget users,
taking them into the boat by converting the brief initial sale of $79 on end of Nov
into a cross month sale overlapping into Dec 5th
(all in all 5 days more for demo and sale).

So budget users are able to better split their income across the 2 month of Nov/Dec
and don`t feel punished to join on Dec at a higher price.

To shorten the story, I had no final communicated statement on this
based on my entire comments and replies
and the price went up from $79 to $99 on Dec 1st.

I made my math and readout and decided to better stay away.

To point out my concern,
I am not after a claim who is wrong and who is right,
I am after devs able to communicate with people in this case.

Communication here means, both ends, customer and dev
do know where they are when in contact and there is a fundament to make decisions.

I like the creations of Boz Digital Labs
but nowadays I take several considerations into account
to see if I feel comfortable with a purchase and a company/dev.

I can completely accept people looking more for the creations, the plugins.
So, please if you feel there, buy them !

Case closed.

Btw, this is my prior request to all devs,
make cross month offers and don`t compress sales all into one month,
the required time frame can be equal and stay all the same.

Should last passage have it`s own (vst) thread ?
Maybe some devs stop by and do find new suggestions to think about.

It's a good compressor honestly, I'm sure the other plugins are also quite good. Maybe people think it's cheap because it doesn't hoard all the time of the CPU. How to distinguish a quality plugin from a poorly made plugin?

Yes, it is a complete shame, but on the other hand he actually really asked for it. He single-handedly (it seems*) quasi-destroyed his own business.

*Sometimes developers during beta-development are too open to daft ideas from some testers. I have no idea really, but I guess what might have happened is that he made the mistake to ask his testers "how much should I ask for Imperial Delay" and one tester said "dude you could ezily ask 300€ for it - it's the best f**king delay evar - it's teh delay every bro' haz bin waiting fo'" and most of the other testers went "yeah yeah - what he said!!!".

Then Boz tried to justify this ridiculous prize as it seemed too late for him to back-pedal and he ended up making the sad mistake to come up with that hilarious argument. I guess he'll end up regretting that episode for the rest of his life.

Thing is: I really like Manic Compressor but I can't bring myself topurchasing it as I somehow can't respect Boz at all anymore as a business partner. and so I can't see myself doing any further business with him. Suddenly the quality of his products aren't really the most important thing anymore. If to only one single person in the entire universe the saying "shot himself in the foot" applied, it would be Boz.

Such a shame - he is such a likeable guy and such a talented coder.

I also didn't understand the price, if it was for sales it worked i guess, since i bought the Imperial Delay shortly after demoing. But i can see your point that it damaged his business.

It's how the GUI is laid out. Setting the Left and Right timing alone takes much longer than i.e. Live's Filter Delay, which has a clear oversight for all the channels. In ID there's 1 main knob, and buttons to select Left or Right. That should have been 2 knobs, with a button to toggle Link, retaining individual channel timings. Which even that ID doesn't do. For the price, i would have expected to see a faster and clearer workflow.

I'm rambling, i'll email Boz or something.

Hahaha zeep, I was scratching my head if you are sure to have opened up the right thread.

I first emailed him when sasquatch came out at the half price sale (i think it was $50) and told him my pension would be arriving the day after the sale so i'd miss it by 24 hrs, was there any possible way i could buy it 1 day late at the sale price.

... i emailed him when time came, no reply. Emailed again, no reply.

Although I was about to remain silent on this, I like to say thanks for sharing.
I can see more clearly now, there is a pattern.

Why not just say NO from the very first email ...
There's something very wrong with his customer service/business mind, at least from my experience.

For a small one-man-show the $299 delay was kind of suicide. That he announced $59 intro right from the start made it even more worse.

Maybe he studied some marketing books and decided that setting an irrational high price tag could work for him: Unfortunately seems not (Price now is $149 for that "Imperial Delay" guess why?). Another turn of the screw is that some people sense incredibility after that and that is a bad thing if you want to sell something.
