Hi all, not sure if this should be here or sampling but it's about hardware...

I've been told - by my wife, so it's important! :D - that my kick trigger pedals are too loud.

I'm currently using a pair of DrumTek FATPedals. The pedal is a heavy bit of aluminium and clacks down loudly onto a rigid bit of plastic that forms the trigger - the sound of that, plus the transmitted impact through the pedal cause a fair amount of noise. So I am investigating other options.

One of the critical requirements - in addition to being much quieter - is allowing two kick pedals to trigger my TrapKAT, which has a single input. The FATPedal has a thru connector to allow chaining the pair of pedals.

Allegedly the Roland KT-10 is very quiet and also is one of few pedal triggers with a thru-merge to allow a pair into one trigger input. However, as with anything Roland, compatibility is my main concern. Has anyone here used one with any KAT gear, specifically the TrapKAT? Or can provide any views?

I'm also considering a mesh head trigger pad - the one I'm looking at is the Yamaha KP-100. Has anyone experience of such triggers? Given being used with a (twin chain) double felt-beater pedal, are such pads going to be quiet? (Oh joy, picking "proper" kick pedals, too! :) DW3000 is looking likely...)

Of course, any other suggestions for quieter pedals (no acoustic treatment suggestions, please) are welcome.

Finally - and ideally - I'm trying to source gear from UK suppliers in case I need to return it but any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

-- Peter

i'm just now seeing your post in 2024 but curious if you still use your Trapkat and what pedals you ultimately went with. I'm using a Roland KT10 and it's not very quiet but i've decided that theres nothing quiet out there. would love to chain up a double tho.

Don't know if OP will respond, but the old KAT pedals used for kick (FatKat and HatKat) both are much quieter, but lack responsiveness and traditional feel that a Roland kick pedal with a normal beater would have.

I like both for different purposes. If you're dreaming of a double kick setup, I would suspect you'll be happiest with Roland style for playing.
