Just stumbled across something in the online version of Sound on Sound from September 2009: an article called "Compression Made Easy" with accompanying audio files to download. Great place to start! Enjoy..

Compression made easy.. huge wall of text.. Folks interested in the easy route are not going to slog through an article like that!

Better title would have been "Compression Basics" or something -- nothing makes compression "easy" -- it takes a lot of practice imho -- but the articles do make the effort more accessible. Tells you where to start and how to frame the controls.

Anyone looking for something snap-your-fingers easy-peesee, no reading or thought required, will be disappointed.

Those who will lift a finger to help themselves might find it useful though. I've read / watched a lot of online stuff on mixing online, and this one strikes as as one of the better introductions. YMMV.

Anyway, if you are not 100% satisfied with this free article, I will refund your money.
