All of the above! Unfortunately, songwriting is more about inspiration than technique. I usually have the melody and framework of the song/tune in my head before I touch my guitar or computer. That doesn't mean that it all changes beyond recognition once I start recording!
My only advice is to have a real good listen to songs in your preferred genre. Sorry
