And as Sean Costello was writing last year :
"This is just a quick survey of what people are using. Not a shootout. Just a survey." :)

Thanks!

Win 8.1 on desktop, OS X 10.11 on MBP.

with and macbook pro mid 2010 (core 2 duo), I think that maybe 10.11 could be one of the latest updates that I can install. But I really liked it, way more than 10.10.

My plan is to upgrade my studio PC to Win 10 next weekend after a nice clean re-install of 8.1. I've been testing 10 on my laptop for the last few months and had no problems with it so its time for the main one to join in.

Win 10 pro here. Been running it since the tech preview came out.

My OS is 32-bit Ubuntu Studio Linux v14.04.3 LTS (long-term supported).

I use mostly Windows programs to make music though. (Reaper, EnergyXT; sometimes FL Studio)
I do use Linux WAV editors though: Audacity and OcenAudio
And I use DeaDBeeF Linux media player.

I use Foobar2000 (for Windows) to convert 32-bit float WAV's into 16-bit FLACs.
It's interesting how nobody uses Vista so far. I run Wine in Windows 7 mode.

On Win 7 at the moment and looks like I'll be there for the foreseeable future.

I just discovered this weekend that the Firewire drivers for my older Mackie Onyx 1620i analog mixing board are only supported up to Win 7. There is a Firewire upgrade you can buy from Mackie, but even the drivers for that are only supported to Win 8.

Just glad I found out before I went for the free Win 10 upgrade. It would have shutdown my entire home studio indefinitely. Everything goes through that board--even my DAW would have stopped working without the connection to the audio interface inside the mixing board. :dog:

10 on my laptop, which I don't use for making music because it is painfully slow anyway.
7 on my desktop at home, but will probably upgrade to 10 sometime in the next few months.

Everyone uses 7 at work except for a 10 test machine.

Vista with SP2 - massive improvement on xp and none of the security/upgrade BS of 7 and above. Best of all possible scenarios :). The only downer is that a few DAW's won't install on anything below 7.. could be an issue for me someday.

When i used Vista, i couldn't really comprehend the bashing on it either. It was running at least as stable and issue free as Windows 7. Actually the performance using ASIO4ALL was even better on Vista than it was on Windows 7 for me. Very happy with Windows 10, and before that, Windows 8.1 now though. Especially the increment of performance is quite siginificant IMO. And kudos to Microsoft for handling the biggest online update in computer history so well. I updated 3 machines to Windows 10 so far, and none of them really had big issues (in fact not even small issues).
