I've been using Box.com for online storage and I keep most of my key files, license.lic etc with the installers as well on it.
Any take on this? Would you feel safe?

Anyone with some bad experience with these Boxes (Box, Dropbox etc.)?

Thanks for any good advices :scared:

I see no issue with that, as long as you keep them files to yourself. Don't know about Box.com, but according to my personal experience, at least Dropbox keeps your files private unless you decide to share them.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

I wouldn't do it. The issue for me is not so the safety of the cloud servers, but what if someone is able to snoop out your login details. At least i feel much safer to store my keyfiles locally.

I would not ever store anything personal or valuable with an online storage.com. You can save all of your installers and keyfiles on dvd's and name them "Grandma Christmas" or "Me and My Car Pics" or something like that. No one will ever think about looking on them for something as valuable as your software keyfiles. Then your stuff will be safe forever.

You beat me to it. :hihi:

I would never use online storage for anything personal (or important) like a keyfile. Always keep a CDr or DVD backup somewhere safe. I keep backups on an external hdd too.

LOL. I know I would not be snooping on that one for sure!

A simple precaution to take is to put them into an encrypted and password protected rar container. Then you can be sure that no one else can access them even if your account is breached.

Anything sensitive that you put into cloud should always be encrypted by yourself. Never relay on the encryption provided by the service.

Hi guys!
Thank you for the unanimous opinion. :tu:
I have two choices:
Remove or encrypt (AxCrypt is great for just files and no back door, it seems)
No time to do that, so I will remove until I get more organized.

Thank you for your input. Usually when we have a doubt most of the time that's the answer.

I echo the people who wouldnt store things in the cloud, but if i had to, password protected rar's would be the way i would go as well. I would label the file something stupid like turkeydrawing, and not allmysoftwarelicenses.

Yes, that will be next move.
I felt more secure in general with Box.com rather than Dropbox but then yesterday I found some bad article about Box that changed my mind completely, and together with the above advices, I will use just DropBox, cheap and easy and huge, with encrypted files, true-crypt (which is very safe, never mind the rumors about it) or AxCrypt.

So, there it is... :)
