I used to remember how exciting it was to get the latest Sweetwater catalog.

Absolutely! The good ole days of hardware romplers and workstations! A new workstation from the big 3 (oh yeah, remember the big 3?) with a piss poor 128-MB ROM and I'd get excited like a kid in a candy store. Nowadays I'm so spoiled by the plethora of VSTs nothing excites me anymore. Seriously what we do need anymore? Everything's in software, released directly from the companies. Everything's a few clicks away..In some ways it is sad...there's just no zing to software like there is for hardware.
But who's complaining? I'm all ITB and won't look back.

As mentioned, it's two fold: The cost of "good" stuff has come down so much that many of us have had much of what we really desire (sans stability in some cases). Also, what else is there to invent?
You can make the packaging more ego friendly I guess. But I think that many thinkers have made an astonishing revelation: It's nearly impossible, especially in this day and age, to have a forward thinking product that will appeal to a broad market. Not to mention keeping a staff that can consistently grow the product.
Closest thing to it I can remember was reaper all the years. The updates were fast, furious and useful. The product was really stable, and grew exponentially w/o much (if any) in cost.
I think they got board
How many things have you bought that are sitting in your closet because they haven't been updated properly, haven't kept up with drivers, or became simply to frustrating to deal with for more reasons than can be addressed? Don't be shy, raise your hand!
