It just blows my mind.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Well, THE favourite is always hard. Re: Marillion, I'd prefer the original (Steve Hackett on Firth of Fifth).

There's this guy though, whose playing has been impeccable for over forty years... fuckin awesome solo right here (after approx. 3:00)

Oh yeah, an obvious choice, but for a reason! Here's another Clapton great (note how the guitar actually *cries* at the end of the solo... soo beautiful)

Some that come to mind as pure standouts...:

(it's not eddie, it's vai. ) Great song, grooves, and has a unique flavor. It's NOT about the speed (though that is there) it's about the notes and the emotion.

You have to forward and it's REALLY short. But that's why it's so fantastic.

I'll have more, but my audio driver just went boo boo and I'll have to restart (don't want to loose this)

Just about anything Jeff Beck, but here is my all time favorite.

You can hear all the subtle dancing he does with the guitar and noise in the background and stuff....which adds to the charm.

Then Eric Johnson ANYTHING as well.

Here as some great old videos from Austin City Limits. Pay attention to the bass too. Beautiful.

Let's keep the shred fest going.............

Here's some Frank Gambale, Shawn Lane (RIP) and Brett Garsed.

More? You got it.

Gambale, Holdworth? Listen responsibly.
