Sustain introduced in the upper registers on ST2 pianos

Why is it that as soon as you get to around E5 a sustain is introduced in the sample? Depending on the piano patch it may be F5 or another key up there, but all of the pianos share this problem. If you turn off all effects it is readily apparent. Leading up to that key there is no sustain at all, and as soon as you hit that wall...bam it is right there up into the upper registers. Just wondering why this is.

it's because the dampers run out on the piano being sampled, and it's supposed to sustain. the strings are so shorter, so the decay is faster. plus it adds to the resonance of the piano.

That's because real pianos don't have dampers on the high notes. They just ring and the sustain pedal doesn't affect them. Usually it starts around F5 but can vary on different pianos. Next time you play a real grand piano check it out.

plus, the dampers run out on different notes, depending on the manufacturer, that would explain the difference of some st2 pianos beginning to sustain on e, or f. it's a different piano and design.

Yes, but I've not played a grand that didn't have that. Have you?bluedad wrote:doesnt even have to be a grand. same on spinets, consoles, studio uprights, too.Next time you play a real grand piano check it out.
But, it's good to have a piano expert around here. I should have known I didn't have to answer!
Hey, are you going to Summer Namm?
