I bought today a sony amplifier to my set of JBL 4408 studio monitors
the amp is a sony F670ES

Though, I havn't got the expensive stuff it works very well - very clean and clear sound. I can't see why anybody would buy those quadraphonic computer speakers type things.
Id say its more practical to use headphones when working. Though, if you'v got a more profession studio set-up, whith seperate rooms for band and mixing, then good studio monitors would be needed.
