visually it presents way better than predecessors. however i will remain sound forge fan.

I really like the new interface. I'll upgrade to Elements 9 next month probably.

just got the e-mail. The new plug ins certainly look as if they will give me the visual feedback I need. And at £18 for the upgrade that's quite nice.

I have Ozone and used wavelab previously for restoration of some casette tapes (using the sonnox stuff). Maybe I'll end up using wavelab more. Pity Pro is so much more or I might be considering switching from Ozone

The dreaded ribbon :dog: - let's hope it doesn't find it's way into Cubase.

I'm not looking for audio software that requires 8 or 16 GB RAM...not really.

Neither am I interested in a DAW that doesn't evnen alow me to pick and windows theme I like.

That said and I've been using, and still do, Cubase ever since. I've just stopped upgrading to the new PC game style versions of Steinberg's products.

However, I'm sure they are good.

They push themselves to come up with a new release every 6th month. I don't think that's good all the time. Because it has reached a point where the most upgrades are more or less cosmetic...for the sake of a new release.

I'll save my money and just take the GUI as wallpaper. After all ..it loos good :-)

WaveLab requiers 6GB of Ram tops!

That only happens with Cubase, not with WaveLab...

Again, not with WaveLab, WaveLab 8 was released almost three years ago... Yes, there was a .5 release in the middle but WaveLab takes alittle bit longer to develop.

EDITED: WaveLab used to be a one man operation.

This looks interesting:

Direct exchange with Cubase and Nuendo for using WaveLab’s mighty feature set during mixing and for easily opening the respective Cubase/Nuendo project from WaveLab.

Does this mean copy and paste or drag and drop of audio files between the Wavelab (Pro and Elements) and Cubase? In other words from one track to another track between Wavelab and Cubase.

Well, I'm sure WaveLab 9 is great.

I have always liked Steinberg's products. But I've started to look for other products since I think Steinberg's stuff requires to much from the computer.

I've been using Cubase since 1993 :-)

Nice. I'll be upgrading to WL9 Pro before the week is over.

Aaaand... as usual, no demo. Guess I'll have to wait a bit on that end. WL8.x has been really buggy for me lately. Sometimes I feel hosts are rigged to go poof at a certain date.

Guillermo Navarrete wrote:• World’s leading audio editing and mastering solution with up to 384 kHz sample rate support
Did it before, no?
Now if you would have said "DSD ready" or "internal OS to xyz amount", then I would have been like "what?! Sign me up!"

Guillermo Navarrete wrote:• Revolutionary new user interface with innovative windows docking system
Was about damn time to overhaul the GUI.
Up until WL6, I could find my tools instantly, with 7 and up I was like "where was this feature again that I don't need on a daily basis?!".

Guillermo Navarrete wrote:• Advanced EBU R128-compliant loudness metering, including a loudness graph, loudness meta normalizing and true peak support
My only question here would be:
Do I have control over the EBU R-128 "measurement" setup? By definition, R-128 is "set", meaning - no reference level, no custom color codes. If you have said "ITU R-1770-x specs", then it's free to set up.

Can anybody confirm if I'm free to set this meter to my needs? This is something I really hated in Cubase, and in WL8.x it was limited as well (but possible).

EDIT, checked the manual: it's still like Wavelab 7/8... the Batch processor also focuses on -23LUFS as reference only. People... even the P/LOUD group already said that this value may be too low. Especially for CD productions, where the values (according to "Mastered for iTunes" and "Youtube Loudness Normalization on Playback") is currently around -16LUFS to -14LUFS.

Guillermo Navarrete wrote:• High-quality SoX-based Resampler, Multiband Expander and Multiband Envelope Shaper
SoX? As in "SoundeXchange built in?
Nice move - I'm kind of sad that AudioMove stopped development, and SoX's command line code is so non-intuitive to pull off proper SRC conversion.

Guillermo Navarrete wrote:• WaveLab Project Manager and customizable naming scheme
This is something I actually look forward to.
I always had like 8 sub-folders per mastering project just to keep the project structured.

What was not mentioned in the OP however:
  • Multi-rendering on export still works (there is hope that rendering of HD-AAC was kept) // EDIT, checked the manual: yes, HD-AAC rendering is still possible, which I consider the future
  • Wavelab can finall render Surround files (previously only Mono and Stereo)
  • Wavelab introduces a "startup dialog" - probably similar to the Cubase Hub (if it also accesses the "newsblog" - I'll definitely look forward to the HTTPS error messages, which are due to me refusing to upgrading my OS browser - which I don't even use!)
What I also miss in any descriptions:
- I was in hope that Wavelab can record multi tracks, didn't see that off hand either on the page/in the manual
- did the Batch Processor get an "SoX" module as well? (which would DRASTICALLY speed up things)
- did the Batch Processor "Analysis" module finally(!!!) get a RMS readout? (currently only ITU-R BS.1770-x specs worked, and max peak of course) // EDIT, checked the manual: No, it did not get RAW Loudness (RMS) analysis
- were any plugin collaborations dropped or enhanced? (like: Drop of Sonnox Plugins, but implementation of iZotope noise reduction tools - apparently MBit+ is still included)

And wow - guess we found somebody that is more "pissed" (for no reason) at Steinberg upgrades than I usually am. Change of pace. :tu:
sfd wrote:I'm not looking for audio software that requires 8 or 16 GB RAM...not really.
The official specs say "4GB RAM" as requirements. Even in busy projects, I never even scratch 3GB on x64.

sfd wrote:Neither am I interested in a DAW that doesn't evnen alow me to pick and windows theme I like.
One of the strong points of Wavelab - it saves your work windows internally. Which often caused confusion for me as I was sometimes in the Audio Montage Window, but I needed the WAV Edit window.

However, I'm sure they are good.
*pst* Cubase 8.x also runs on low RAM rigs... I once had it on a 6GB RAM rig (LE and Demo), and it loaded/worked just fine - with a fully loaded project of mine from C7.5 (eating up to 4,5GB RAM).

As somebody that is with Steinberg since the 90ies:

- Cubase Upgrade: every year (with one or two exceptions during the "buy ins", lowest was 9 months at some point, average around 11-12 months, v.0 demo usually delayed by 4 months, v.5 demo by 1,5 - due to reasons I can't understand). No .1, .2, .3 versions anymore (sadly), but .0 and .5

- Wavelab Upgrade: every other year on average (demo: whenever)

Lifecycle from v.0 to v.0:
Cubase: 2 years
Wavelab: 3,5 years (average) to 4 years

Expect Cubase 9.0 by end of the year, probably around End October, early November again (we're already at maintenance .x.15 - and updates usually hit every two to three months, highest was x.30 in recent years).

I'm waiting for the bug reports by the early adopters...
I'm in no rush to upgrade (currently busy with projects anyway)

I guess it's business as usual, and the demo comes in a few months. But yeah, would be a good idea to have it available when the new version is out... after all it's a good way to achieve more buys.

Demo please.
