Let's use Tascam/Nemesys' history as an example.
GigaStudio 3 will be terrible for the first three months. Completely unusable for the first one, and unstable/quirky for the next two. As a Rewire instrument, it will cause crashes in the host and funky behavior never seen by other Rewire products due to proprietary underlying drivers. After that, it will be stable, but only with a custom environment that is incompatible with a host sequencer that runs other softsynths.
It won't play GigaStudio 2.5 libraries effortlessly. 75% will work 'ok' but 25% either won't load (causing a crash) or will play silence. Tascam's response will be for the sound library developers to upgrade their collection.
The Gig file format will no longer be a format of choice that 3rd party sound designers will use to sell mass-market libraries. Rather, top orchestral libraries will embrace the format (with prices to match).
In the end, GigaStudio will be celebrated by pros with dedicated GS3 rigs, but shunned by the masses.
Brian
EDIT: This post is only my opinion based on the past, not based on using a beta or any "inside word" on the product. I would be happy to be completely wrong in my prediction.

I've used it already and it's amazing. Ironically, SR has never made Giga libraries before but we're going to make some for Giga 3. I'll be able to talk more about it when it's released though just in case (not sure what is secret or not at this point). But, I am planning on supporting it first with this 40+gig drum library we've been working on.
Giga 3 is really for pros who want to dedicated a whole PC to just it though pretty much. Can be worth it though if you are really into the things it does. Not something you put on a laptop. But, I have this Zen Shuttle PC that I am going to dedicate to it and perhaps the Emulator X and audio card.
