Since www.soundcreationsinc.com doesn't post the 256 meg version of slendid grand sf I was wondering if anybody here could post it on a website, then send me a private message and I'll come and get it. Kinda a longshot I know but I just can't find it anywhere and it sounds great!

I don't think there has ever been a 256 Meg soundfont available to the public. However, Akai used to have the original files accessible through their FTP server. The original Splendid Grand was not in soundfont format. It was in Akai format. There were actually two 256 Meg sets of WAV samples, along with AKM and AKP files which specified how the sampler should handle all the various WAV files. One of the 256 Meg sets was labeled "Grand Piano off mic" and the other was "Grand Piano 256M", even though both sets were actually 256 Meg in approximate size.maximilians1 wrote:Since www.soundcreationsinc.com doesn't post the 256 meg version of slendid grand sf
So, what you're asking for might not exist in soundfont format.

You might want to give this a try:
University of Iowa
The Splendid Grand was a sampled Stienway, with 256 Megs of samples and 4 velocity layers.
The link above is to a 1,320 Meg (1.3GB) Stienway sample set, with 3 velocity layers, available for free download. Even though it has one less velocity layer, it's still 4 times as large as the Splendid Grand! All the notes in this sample set are much longer than the Akai sample set, and they are allowed to fade into silence. This Steinway was recorded with Neumann KM 84 mics, through a Mackie 1402-VLZ mixer, onto a Panasonic SV-3800 DAT, in 16-bit 44.1 kHz AIFF stereo format.
The bad part is you'll need to do a bit of work to bring this into the sampler of your choice. Since the files are all AIFF format, most people will have to convert them to WAV. After that, you will possibly want to tweak the levels and normalize everything. Then you have to map them all to a sampler format. It can get tedious.
If you don't want to go through all that, you could wait till I get around to mapping all the samples to the SFZ format, sometime in the next week or two. You'll still have to batch convert all the AIFF files to WAV format, but that will be relatively easy.

Yeah there is because I've got it.McLilith wrote: I don't think there has ever been a 256 Meg soundfont available to the public.

I would upload it for you guys, but it would take forever on my 56k. It took me 16 hours to download it
I am planning to get DSL sometime in the near future, and I would be glad to upload it then if someone will host it
Oh, and I personally prefer the piano in the GM SJ Orchestral Soundfont to the Splendid Grand.

I've got the Wav files here and I am happy to upload them. but I don't have a site to put them in. So if you host it I'll post it. Then you convert it.
That's if that is not breaking any rules around here.

The only reason soundcreationsinc.com doesn't post the 256 meg sf is because of server rules and bandwidth .
Cheers
