Hi All,
I am attempting to set up a marginally insane set-up that uses products from Nerd.Be to allow me to syncronize Ableton with Cubase without resorting to rewire.
The main reason that I wish to incorporate Ableton is so that I can use the powerful automation features in conjunction with sends and some really nice Max 4 Live Devices that will enable me to orchestrate very complex and coordinated modulation patterns on multiple tracks at the same time. None of this is possible if Ableton is a slave to Cubase through Rewire.
ipMIDI solves the problem of allowing Ableton to remain in Master Mode and coordinate MIDI Clocks/Transport, etc with Cubase.
LoopBe30 allows me to send 30 MIDI In/Out with 16 Channels each between the two.
The hang-up is with LoopBeAudio, which is supposed to have the ability to stream 24 audio channels.
I tried it on Win 7 and could only get two channels to work and then, for completely separate reasons, I upgraded to Win 8 and still only get two audio channels.
The reasons for this arrangement of DAWs are numerous -- Cubase has tremendous abilities for chord assistance, arpeggiation, side-chaining and I hope to begin incorporating CyberDiva to add lyrics to my work, but with a little bit of trickery, Ableton is capable of amazing modulation patterns that would be difficult to match elsewhere.
So, it seems that the only missing piece is how to get audio from one DAW to the other (without spending thousands on sound interfaces).
Has anyone had similar problems with LoopBeAudio and found any solutions? Or does anyone know of any similar applications that would allow me to send audio from one DAW to another internally on my computer?
Many Thanks!
Nerd.Be LoopBeAudio

I tried this once and recall that it installed two devices - a two channel and a multi-channel. Are you using the correct device?
I also believe that Cubase does not support being a MIDI clock slave. Maybe this has changed, but you may need Ableton to be the clock slave. I'm trying to do something very similar with Cubase and Live, using Live for creative instrument racks, and Cubase as the main mixing and editing DAW. Using LoopBeAudio required me to use ASIO4All to create a composite audio device so I can use both the virtual and physical audio cables. I like to run really low latency so I scrapped this approach.
I've been experimenting with Dante VIA, which uses the Dante Protocol to route audio between different apps, and can also route audio across the network to other Dante VIA or Dante Virtual Sound Card devices. I've had better luck with this approach and it's only $49, so not too pricey.
