Wanted to see how others were using the Freehand Phrase Generator. Having a play with it, but not sure how to really use it. Thought at first it would be similar to the Freehand Replacement Mode for the MIDI Controllers.

Same here, no idea how this thing is supposed to work and especially what the difference to the line-generator is.
The name suggests that it would be able to draw a freehand curvy line with the notes generated following the drawn shape, which would be a great function to have (attention: feature request

).

Attila, can you chime in and explain?

That's what I was thinking as well, max.noise, that the Freehand and Line generators were the same, or very similar. Hopefully Attila can shed some light on this.

I don't think the freehand drawing is useful at all

That is why it was excluded from previous versions.
I think it would be more usable if the curve could be combined with a rhythm pattern. I'll see if it can be improved in a next version.
Please take it as an experimental feature.

This was the first thing that i tried adding Apply Rhythm to phrase or track and start to draw
i was hoping it will allow to draw freely up & down as like a phrase envelope but the phrase based instead of track based

Is this something similar to what is in LIquid Music by Wave DNA? You just draw in the phrase either once the notes have been inputted or dependentant on certain style selection and other parameters? Apparently it works quite well in that program, didn't have a lot of time to demo it. But that program can only work in 4/4 time, so, for the money they want, I passed on it.

I think I understand what you mean. Yes, it would make more sense.
In the long run multiple segments could be used with the 'Line Generator' (silly name), and the Freehand would be removed.
I added this to the to-do list.

I think that's what:
It is time to remove the envelopes phrases, and do not need to remove the free hand generator (but most likely have to do ... I do not know how to write))
Just draw a free line phrases contour on top and bottom ... The same range of notes, only the free drawn line!

Freehand phrase generator if properlly designed can be a terrific addiTion to RC.
The way the app Liguid rhythm has implemet it is very smart, it uses a rhythm track as a reference for drawing not only melody phrases but harmonic phrases as well. But RC coult take this idea futher away inmo by apply ing freehand to any kind of phrase generator.
What is beautifull about drawing music is that the composer can envision music as dimensional shapes that way you can SEE the music and draw it in a certaing way.
So inmo RC must improve Freehand phrase generator with the following:
- the shape of the drawing must following certain rhythm rules
- maybe use quantitation rules
- phrase generators can follow the shape of the pencil when free drawing
- what about free drawing 2 voices in similar contrary ...motion?
Inthink that Freehand phrase generator has lots of potential.
