Sonar Platinum does not work as advertised.
In the past couple weeks, Sonar has cancelled my ability to call Tech Support, they will not answer my tech support emails and when they still were I was told they would follow up with problems that were occurring.
I am a power user but I was running into problems where my bounced, mixed files would not sound at all like the original tracks. This is a basic feature that failed. Even after writing up a tech ticket that I could access after login, it never was addressed, even after 6 months. There were other issues that did not function as indicated in their manual, such as the ability to switch selected tracks to automation or to waveform. Never worked. Never solved.
Cakewalk, I came back after Pro-Tools 10 because of your online eye-popping feature list, but now I've moved onto PreSonus Studio One 3.2 and they ARE answering my email.

Yeah... i think he should try Reaper.TheoM wrote:sorry i take it with a grain of salt. I had problems with Sonar also back when i used it, but to join a forum JUST to make a post complaining about one company and pimping another in their place, does not look good, nor is it believable.

I am a power user too and I agree with the OP as no matter what I do I don't get audio from my MIDI files. Sonar clearly broken basic functionality

hhmmm, Cakewalk/Sonar . . . my favorite meal
. But to say it doesn't work as advertised is probably taking things a little to far for the most part, because it does do what it's supposed to do and does it quite well. It does have it's fair share, perhaps more than it's fair share of quirks and idiosyncrasies, and might I say bugs, long standing basic level bugs, but what software doesn't have bugs. I ditched Sonar Platinum over a year ago, and switched to Studio One 3 Professional, much happier there, it wasn't just Sonar as such that made me want to switch, but the seeming direction taken under the Subscription Model, the attitude towards bugs, the attitude that has began to pervade the forums where if there is anyone with a problem it is not Sonar, but 3rd party plugins, pilot error or their machine was substandard, because there isn't anything wrong with Sonar. The sheer fanboi-ism attitude of the forums, the way they have attacked anyone who came with an attitude of not praising Sonar and Cakewalk, labeling them trolls and what have you, just piling on them like a pack of wolves, the Cakewalk forums were once a great place, today not so much, but I guess the main and most important reason was that I just found Studio One to be far better to work with in all areas, and suits me just fine, I can do what needs to be done far quicker and with less fuss. For the record I didn't really have many issues with Sonar itself for my use, and I did jump on the Lifetime Updates deal when released in case at some point in the future there is a reason to return to Sonar, plus for just $99 it seemed like a good deal.
I feel Cakewalk/Sonar may well go down the chute, they may not, but one thing, today and for the period slightly before the Lifetime Updates were introduced there has basically been ZERO support available to customers old and new available from Cakewalk (unless you consider the user forums as support) there is something going on, and of course Cakewalk and their Gibson puppet have ready excuses, but who knows, one thing for sure is that it's a good thing they did offer lifetime updates, because it seems for new users, and for that matter anyone who has issues will need that lifetime to receive any support. The amount of people, again both new and old who have issues with Sonar/Rapture Pro just dropping back into Demo mode, making it basically useless to them, and not receiving any support from Cakewalk is a little concerning, but that's how it is.
But to return full circle, I think for most people Sonar does work as advertised, and to say it doesn't might be a little unfair.

I've been using Cakewalk since this version, which I recently dug up the original floppies after a cleanout of the garage. So for me, the Cakewalk/Sonar workflow for want of a better phrase is almost engrained in me.. Sure there's things it can't do as well as others, and I have toyed around with other products, and often use FL Studio just for getting ideas down quickly. But in this day and age if there's something it can't do, there will be another way to do it. Heck I even recally exporting some audio tracks to Sound Forge to tweak, then reimport back in..
Doesn't work though as advertised - hrmm.. if that were the case I'm sure there'd be a lot more noise around the place. Doesn't work as you expect, perhaps?

There are a hundred things that could cause this. Have you reached out to the Sonar forum for help?bgl wrote: .... running into problems where my bounced, mixed files would not sound at all like the original tracks...
Being a "power user" suggests you've used Sonar for awhile. Are you saying you've had this problem since day one and just lived with it?
If it's a recent development, say, a Sonar update, you can easily rollback to the previous version.
Otherwise, there are steps to tracking down what might be going wrong.
If you've already asked at the Sonar forum, please provide a link and I'll try and steer you in the right direction.
