I'm looking for a (preferably free) program (Win 8 ) that can batch split stereo files into 2 mono files. Defining a naming convention (other than e.g. _l, _r suffix) would be a big bouns.
Anything out there ?

Solved, Sound Devices WaveAgent.
No specifiable suffix (it does _1, _2 but that's fine).

option "remix" is probably your best bet.
Process the file twice: once to get the left channel isolated, then again for the right channel.

I try to avoid command line tools where I can.
Ok, I surely would have given it a try if I found nothing else but WaveAgent comes real close to what I searched and has a GUI so I'm settled.

I had already posted when I saw you found one already.
Come to think of it, there's more editors with batch functions.
