New midi controller for Studio one - Korg Taktile

Hi all,

I have used automap for more than 5 years but recently, I need a 49 keys controller so I bought Taktile. With automap, it will help me map all the knobs and sliders for my vsts. However, when using Taktile, I need to manually map the knobs by using "MIDI learn". It depends on the softsynth itself if it has this kind of feature or not. But I think not ALL vsts has such feature.

May I know how you guys:

1) mapping knobs with Vsts in Studio one ? Is the vst must have "MIDI learn" to do that?
2) If I need to map the most freq used knobs/sliders, how can I just map once then I can use the same vsts in various projects?

1. Yes, you can map your controller in Studio One, and no the VST does not need MIDI Learn. Studio One has what they call "Control Link" or something, and what this does is act as a host-level MIDI Learn so that any plugin paramater in any VST can be controlled without needing separate MIDI Learn functionality. In fact, this feature overrides the MIDI Learn functionality built into most VST synths, forcing you to use the Control Link. It's actually a pretty elegant solution.

2. You'd have to map each instrument a single time, but once you do, the settings are retained. Note: there's two Control Link modes, one at the instrument/effect level, and one at the project level. You have to use the instrument/effect level one for settings to be retained.

Got another question here... If using Ultranova as the controller, it has some kind of page down button so even if it only has 8 knobs, it can map almost all knobs of a softsynth. However, consider Taktile also only has 8 knobs, how can I map more than 8 knobs in a soft synths?
