Damn! Just when I thought to go back to my most used DAW in the past, I found something very annoying!

I'm running the trial of Cubase Pro and everything seems to work perfect, except one thing. The cpu spike every few minutes! Like a flash leaving after it the bloody trace!

I thought it is only visual, but no! During recording and playing the keys, the spike happens and makes this horrible sound! I thought I have it only in my Elements 8 version, but no! :(

Luckily, I haven't bought Cubase Pro yet! This is a deal breaker for me. I don't have this behaviour in S1, Reaper and Live, so it seems I'll stay with those 3 better!

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

If you're on Windows, get hold of ProcExp from Sysinternals (related to MS, so legit) and run that while your Cubase is spiking. It'll let you move the cursor over the spikes on its CPU graph and tell you what spiked. Double-click a graph to get it bigger.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Thanks a lot jabe :) Those utilities are gems :tu:

I'll test ProcExp with Cubase today and see if I can find the reason.

I did a fast test, waiting for Cubase to spike. Unfortunately, Cubase spikes doesn't show in the utility graph (or any other numerous indication) :(

I'll try to use other utils in the suite and see if I can find any indication.

The CPU meter spikes on loading in Cubase 7.02 - every time. I have learned to ignore them because they do not affect my processes.

Have you checked your ASIO set-up?

Strange indeed. Not your antivirus checking files that Cubase is opening, or anything like that? Hope you find the problem - and now you've got a bucket of new utilities!

@SODDI:
The Asio guard is on Normal. My Asio setup is 44.1khz with 256 Buffer, Presonus AudioBox driver. I don't think it is the ASIO setup unless I need trying to disable the Asio guard (I'll give it a go).

@jabe:
I have the Windows 10 built in security only. No 3rd party firewall or antiviurs.

It might be related to the old e-licenser (software). Now I have two, one for the usb e-licenser and one for the old software. I tried to delete the Software's one, but I couldn't know how (Even in MySteinberg account, there is only the option to delete the usb e-licenser!).

What I think is that Cubase is checking for something (mostly related to e-licenser, what else?!!), but it is strange that I have no any indication of that. The spike goes on a glance every two or 5 mins (Randomly). I'll try to record a gif and upload it somewhere to show how the spike happens while nothing appear on the cpu measure.

I found it! It is the Asio Guard!!

I disabled it and tried to see the spikes for more than 10 mins and I failed :D Actually, the cpu performance in Cubase has increased a lot when I disabled the Asio Guard!! Looked like Reaper! :hihi:

Ok then, back to Plan A (which is saving for Cubase Pro ;) )

then from what is asio guard guarding us?

Cubase is protected by E-licenser and Asio Guardian! :tu:

Well, it's better than being protected by Chris Buermann ;)
