Reason REs with free/reduced cross grades to plugin (or visa versa)?

Synapse have announced that their new 'Legend" RE will include a free crossgrade to the plugin version. This is the first time I've heard of such an arrangement but if there are more that do this I would like to know. I suspect it's easier from RE to plugin than plugin to RE.

Publicly? Not that I am aware of, but I stop using Reason and purchasing REs about two and half years ago, due to a decision to invest in only VST hosts and plugins. Therefore, my knowledge of the topic is not up-to-date.

However, on several occasions, I have contacted a developer directly, after purchasing their RE, and received a significant discount on the VST/AU version after submitting a request.

With that said, I am unsure whether or not the practice is common, but no developer has ever rejected providing me with a discount if proof of RE purchase was submitted.

Yes. As the RE sales are done via the Propellerhead shop, and PH get revenue from every sale, i figure that devs are only able to provide VST/AU for free, when you purchased a RE, than the other way around. Still very cool from them though. TBH, i wouldn't have too high expectations that other devs will go down that route too though.

This is a very nice, and smart move from Synapse Audio.

But what if I already have a Synapse Audio VST, and would like to get the RE equivalent, i.e. RE format for Reason, (I have Dune 2 VST, which will allow me to get Synapse Audio's Antidote RE for Free. now that would be super cool as well.

A general application of this type of policy for both RE --> VST or VST --> RE for all similar or equivalent plug-ins would be great.

Aren't they very close to being the same ? or is Antidote very different from Dune 2 ? I was under the impression that they are very similar. Although I think Dune 2 has more features than Antidote.

Yeah, Dune 2 has way more features. The way i understood it, Antidote was sort of some by-product during the Dune 2 development, and they decided to release it as a RE synth. As far as i read, Dune 2 even features a more progressed level of the sound engine, so they're different synths really.

Rob Papen offers a 50% crossgrade both ways, if you email your proof of purchase to their support. In my case, they saw that I owned 4 RE's and took those as my 3 rob papen plugins to qualify for the upgrade to Explorer III which at that point was $149. I thought that was pretty awesome of them. I think Kuassa offers a crossgrade discount as well, but I haven't tried to buy vst versions of their stuff yet.

I know that Kuassa will give you a special price on the RE's if you own the corresponding VST plugins.

Several refill makers have products that work on both Reason NN-XT and Kontakt and you can usually get discounts on cross-grades of those as well.

The other good thing is the coupon code they send you works at any time. So I owned predatorRE, got my coupon code but just couldnt pull the trigger on the vst. Well at some point RP had a 50% off or something sale on predator on his site, and the coupon code worked with it, so at that point it was a no brainer

The only issue I see with doing a crossgrade is that RE's cannot be resold, and therefore the VST versions technically should be NFR (as in the case with Synapse The Legend).
