It's been a while since we last slapped each other's back :hihi: so here's a thread to honour your favourite KvRians on the melodic respect. I have been listening to A LOT of melodically rich music over the last few weeks - I've gone mad for melody and I just wondered which KvR member you think captures that elusive, magical melodic moment best. Obviously, this is a thread in which our pop-rockers are going to prevail, so the rest of you [+me, of course] IDM, electronic and soundscapers musicians shouldn't feel bad, someone's going to start a thread for us too :D  [even though vurt and other people can write a cracking melody should they wish to, as I discovered]

My vote's Putte right now, because I love his latest masterpiece '5' - it's on my discman too. :D

So, start mentioning, let's make some people feel good [cos they deserve it] :D

What's a melody again? :?

Its a bit like 'soup de jour'; it means 'fruit of the day'.

It's when you're a Hun and you're eating rotten flesh but a fly suddenly lands on your meat and you have to chase it with a green cuccumber and a net. While you're naked. During night-time, usually from 11pm-6am. On summer.

Melody - portion lacking from modern music. ;) Ok, not ALL, but we get an AWFUL lot of rhythm only these days. Let's not even talk about harmony.

Melody is simply the succession of varying pitches arranged as an aesthetic whole. Essentially notes that follow one another over time.

Sorry to interrupt the back patting session, but I'd have to disagree on two points. 1) Melody and rhythm, as they are both functions of sound's relationship with time, are heavily intertwined; and 2) I find that the pop/rockers are often the least faithful to melody and tend to emphasize harmony, structural progressions and rhythm.

Again, sorry to interrupt. As for backpatting, I've been suitably impressed with normal's melodic sense.

Cheers,
Steve

While this does not hold true for all rap, I've found enough of the emphasis on the beat, and the rapping, and little else. This style has been quite popular. So, while I agree, it intertwines, but not always with popular music.

so i guess you're pretty much tone deaf to anything but equal temperament, or any scale that isn't nicely annotated in a book somewhere.

does a melody only implicate predefined frequency values? does the entire universe come out of books written by white men with giant rods up their tightly clenched asses whose job it is to "educate" (eg. shit on) the rest of us?

why do i always have to explain everything? why does that sound better if you say it in a sonoran accent?
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.
