The never ending quest of humanity to dumb down things that once meant something.

I would be amazed if anybody actually could name 3 or 4 of the laureates of the last 25 years, without peeking:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N ... Literature

So obviously it is a win-win situation for the committee, give it to somebody that gives us a lot of attention.

Like when Obama received the peace prize some time ago.

Not sure about the grumbling around this, other than outdated high/low culture distinctions. Dylan's one of the finest world-creators and word painters the English language has seen. I don't even like much of his "classic" stuff (I def prefer his output in the last 20 years to the early days). It's literature made in the air, for the moment.

''Lay lady lay. Lay across my big brass bed.'' Wow Bob. That's awesome. Here's a Nobel prize.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

You mean like ahead/bed and light/night rhymes ?

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead.

I am not impressed, rather give the prize to Mark E. Smith of The Fall for really interesting lyrics

As much as I like some of the lyrics and songs of Dylan (and the ones I like and think are meaningful are almost as old as me, which mean more than 50 years) this prize is absurd :borg:

But in the end we are all playing the game that the Nobel committee wants, which is: attention + discussion = publicity

He wrote a lot, bashing of course is easy. I think he deserves the prize.

I'm not sure if even he knows... he doesn't seem to have anything really important to say for a very long time.
