Anyways, newbies might not even be aware what the thread rules are, and maybe even members who has been here for a while don't know what mods are, and even if they did know what and who the mods are but don't know how many mods there are, they might still not know which mod locked their thread and why the mod locked it. And newbies might not know how to use the Private Message function, and if they did know, who will they PM? To a newbie, PM and other site functions, the site layout, might be totally foreign?
I remember one of my threads being locked when I was a newbie (how many posts does a newbie need to become not a newbie anymore?) and I was like "Huh, why is my thread locked?". No mod PMed me before the lock. No warning of any kind. And I couldn't think of any other way to find out why my thread was locked but to start another thread and ask "Why was my thread locked?". It would be akin to "Officer, did I do something wrong, was I driving too fast"? Surely, mods drive and have had ticket(s) and , and if they don't/haven't, they could still relate to that?
I later found out that my thread was locked because the mod presumed I wanted it locked because I may have posted something in the thread similar to "Okay, I guess I have run out of things to say regarding the topic of my thread, I have nothing further to add". But other members may still have had something to add. It didn't mean I wanted my thread locked, I would have locked it myself if I wanted it locked. I propose that mods should at least PM the "offender" or post an explanation using the thread itself and inform the naive newbie why the thread was locked and maybe even give a warning before locking the thread?
Some resilient newbies might eventually learn or become aware of the rules and how the site works (not totally) but other newbies might be so fragile and not stick around after their thread is locked or something. And is it not good for the site to have newbies stick around?
Please mods... do not lock this thread. Thanks a bunch.
