Can you overwrite an Ensoniq ESQ-1 voice cartridge? Is there a reason to buy it instead of SQ8L?

I am asking these questions because my dad would not let me buy an SQ-80 because it uses floppy disks. Floppy disks are fragile and can overheat or wear out easily, right?

Nothing wrong with floppies other than they are obsolete technology. Not made anymore and you cannot buy them anymore. Heat is no problem at all but reliability could be better. But then: nothing lasts forever.
Just read the manual very carefully. Is floppy disk the only means of saving patches? Or are there sysex sequences to dump data with midi?
I'd reason the other way around: you can locate any 2nd hand floppies quite easily, maybe even for free. Specialised RAM cartridges: hardly any chance, apart from what you get with the synth itself.
Oh, can you overwrite cartridges? ROM not, but RAM yes. Again: rtfm very carefully.

We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
