(looking for) pro tips: keeping your sample library organized?

Hi folks,

I am new here so pardon me if this has been covered in previous threads. I didn't find anything in the search though so I'll assume it hasn't. I am planning on spending this coming week sorting through my samples, deleting the ones that I will never use and sorting the others into a library that is categorized by sound type.

So far i have been keeping a chronological database of sample packs that are untouched (as well as 128's for drums). I am wondering if anyone has gone through this process before and how much effort you might recommend putting into creating a folder tree with these categories.(i.e. do you find it helpful to organize things by style? what about keeping folders, for example, with the name "Cymatics - Terror Drums KICKS" within the "KICKS" folder vs just dumping all your kicks in there?)

What are people's opinions on methods for keeping a sample library organized? Have any methods been a big help? have you regretted using a certain method of organization?

Also, are there any drawbacks to telling ableton to stop creating ALS files? aside from it maybe taking a little bit longer to load the samples in again? (I cant stand them cluttering up my sample folders + music library)
