I'm new to producing, i've got a pc and many plugins and i want to know what happens after i arrange the notes. Why should i use a certain effect, for what to do what because my tunes are sounding like shit :-o and i want to make them cheesy & fat (i'm into dance/breakbeat/DnB with guitars on it). I read some tutorials but instead of compression, distors & reverb i don't know why should i use the fx and WHERE to use them. Something like "if you want your *sample* to sound like THIS then do THAT" Anyone can help ? I'm the only one with this problem ? :help:

Thanks !

Don't worry, you're in the same boat as all of us were when we started out.

There's some good tutorials here:

I´m into breakbeats myself...any specific advice you wish to get.
Or perhaps you could upload a sample and I´ll try to advice on how to achive that sound.

I want to do some prodigy-like beats. After that, i wonder how Liam get all together because i used some heavy basslines on heavy BDs and everything messed up.. :?

sounds like you need a lesson in eqing
if you use a heavy bass and a deep kick your mix will become muddy

is this what you are getting?

I think we should have a competition to see how many threads we can hijack and drop in a reference to Brandon Trinity, the winner gets his new CD,this guy is my idol.

I couldn't help myself :D

Anyways, to the original post:

The funny contradiction about digital stuff, especially the DAW/Studio gear is they don't have much 'Logic' or Reason' to them, at least to a beginner. We've all had to ham-fist our way at first to get our bearings.

Your question is kind of generalized, so..what exactly is your problem? Like Vurt said, if you assign to many low freq's to more than one instrument, you're gonna get some mud. Try using a notch eq & choose which instr. peaks at frequency ranges that are not right on each other's asses.

And use a good compressor as a send effect on just about everything :)
