An odd track, slightly Dub

The strangest track I have done in ages. It started out with the odd steel drum sounding lead that comes in just before 0:30. I think that sound set the tone for the rest of the track  It has quite a funky bassline later on.

It's the top one on my cnet page:

Reliant - Just got ST2 The Wrath of Khan on DVD. Any fellow Trekkies will know were the name is from :D

Cool 8)

Had a few listens to this now.
The sounds at the very start are a bit like a Leftfield track from Leftism - I think it's Afro Ride, maybe.

That steel drum sound's great.
Really nice feel to the track.
I could go for a bit more bass on it myself, but that's not a critisism. It sounds really nice, but a bit low in the mix possibly.

Actually, apart from that, there's nothing I don't like about this.
Some great sounds, I love that guitar sound, nice sweeps and pads...

Top track. :)
A keeper for sure. 8)

Short but sweet :)

I really like this... reminds me a bit of Plaid in places. Particularly the backwards synth riff (Or is that the Steel Drum sound you mentioned ???) that comes in at 0:30 then again at 2:24.

:-o Never been compared to leftfield before! Song of Life or Melt are their best imo. 21st Century Poem is ace as well, hell the whole album is great :D (Apart from Open Up. I can't stand the guys voice :x :D)

The guitar/sitar sounds are actualy messed up vocals :)

Glad you like it Glassback. Thanks for the feedback.[/quote]

sweet work you've done here..i just love the feel.
i started the tune and started reading the replies, and right when i got to glassback's comment on the bass level i got my balls rattled...i'm feelin' the bass m'man. this is really sounding good and it's one of those pieces that make me , i don't know, jealous is too strong, envious maybe, of your talent....bluedad does that to me, too, so i guess that puts you in good company.
i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

heh - sorry uncadave - I did say it's not a critisism, just a personal preference.
There's no right or wrong way, as I'm sure you now.
I love this track, as I've said - now put your balls away.

Post

BTW - since reading that the guitar sounds were sampled voices, I gave it a really close listen and, at times, you can tell they're voices when you know.
Very, very clever. 8)

That was a patch I created on my old Supernova 2. It started out as quite a harsh saw patch, but ended up morphing into that odd sound :o I then Rex'ed it to get it into Reason.

All the enthusiastic comments were on target. Man, you gotta get in on this dub project I'm coordinating as you are definitely "getting it" as far as honing in on the vibe I'd like to explore for a while.

I liked the breathing dynamics of the track most of all. It didn't crowd itself out.

Do you have an interest in taking some riffs and getting all-smiles-and-no-tears on them with some dub production? Adding in your own tweaks, too, of course.

I'm trying some of your other tracks as I write this. Cool stuff, man. Please post more. :)

I guess you mean dynamic effects? I only spend about 5-10mins max on mastering in Wavelab as I hate doing it :D I have a routine of using a parametric EQ (With a low cut at around 30) the Endorphin compressor and BBE sonic maximizer.

The whole track was done using Reason. As I mentioned above the main lead was from the Supernova 2, with some vocals used as strange leads. Alot of the pad sounds are from my Ambient Textures refill with the bass from my Chemical Synths refill. Most of the more sfx sounds are from my favorite synth, Malstrom 8) The beats are Redrum patterns.

I don't often use the dynamic effects in Reason, as they arn't very good. I do use the new verb and unison effects alot though.
