I recently got an old cyber twin which is cool but loud and hummy... I would like to change out the preamp tubes and I am looking to soften up the sound a little... I read using 12AU7s instead of the stock 12AX7s is a possible way to do this.
Any advice on buying tubes? 12AU7s in particular? I know pretty much nothing about amps and tubes so any and all advice would be helpful.
Fender Cyber Twin tube replacement help please...

not much to say, you're right but you might also like 12at7's (probably be my choice). They need not be in a matched set like power tubes if that's your concern. IMO JJ tubes are pretty good and all my amps have JJ 12ax7's except my 50 watt Jet City where I used Sovteks which I also like

I went with the electro Harmonix but also saw the JJs... Like you mentioned I did not bother matching them.
