I am looking to start incorporating computer-generated patches in my live performances. My 60s tribute band is selling out theaters and I am in need of top-notch expressive solo winds and horns to play live, as well as more obscure world instruments. Everything needs to be spot on and highly expressive. At the moment I need a great alto recorder patch, and my hardware isn't cutting it. I'd like to use mainstage on a MacBook Pro. What are the best libraries out there for playing live? I've been looking at Vienna instruments, East-West, native instruments etc.

Expressive solo winds and horns - SampleModeling. Works best with a MIDI wind controller, but can also be used with keys.

Obscure world instruments, well, expressiveness is often not really their strength, especially in those giant "hundreds of instruments in one library" cases. What specific instruments do you need, and how expressive do they need to be?

The Versilian Chamber Orchestra Pro has the entire range of recorders included, which is a rarity (even in VSL, you have to buy them separately, AFAIK). Don't have personal experience with it, so, I can't speak about quality and playability.

Thanks for the replies. Samplemodeling looks nice! I am in need of recorders atm but I may purchase from them eventually. The Versillion stuff requires the full version of Kontakt which I don't have

The VSL the recorders are available as a group or in a bundle with other interments. Does anyone know if they are playable live?

Edit: Yeah I am drawn to try a Samplemodeling product with the BBC2 breath controller. I played sax once upon a time...
