"virtual instruments" made by SamplePhonics are not included, at least at the moment.
I just subscribed today, so far it contains
296 Packs
109179 Single sounds
all by samplephonics

This looks really interesting but damn they need to show a list of what kinds of samples/products are included (rather than assuming I (a) know they are/used to be Samplephonics and (b) bother to go look at that site and refresh my memory).

at the moment (not launched yet) it contains 294 packs by samplephonics (and for 89/year that's not a bad start)
they say today (official launch) they will unveil other 10 "creators" on the platform.
The launch price is quite ridiculous, to be honest, considering you could download everything and then cancel and keep all your content...and if you subscribe today the price will always be the same every year...

You can register for free and browse the content. Just skip the payment option.

You know, I filled out a survey for Samplephonics and told them that I would not buy a subscription product.

Now I am not so sure. I guess it depends on how one makes music. If your primary method is to use loops and one-shots then this is probably an excellent buy, especially if Samplephonics continues to produce content at the rate and level of quality that they have for the last couple of years.

The only real subscriptions that I buy right now for my personal use are Adobe Illustrator and MS Office. I suppose that it is possible to count Komplete as a subscription since updates happen at a fairly regular rate.

What about search criteria and tags in the plugin? Is it possible to set those, search them, and also see tags set by other people?

I think this is a very good value for anyone who uses samples at least once in a while. The plugin is still a bit lackluster but it clearly shows potential.

wow, first (general) subscription model for samples/downloads per anno?

I wonder if anyone will make music anymore or in other words: how many samples and loops do we need, when there is still so much to discover from the freebies and buyabees we have right now.
Buy more harddrives then? halleluja marketing.

Really? I use samples "once in a while" but what I've found is that you really can't use that kind of quantity. The dream of searching for that perfect sample just doesn't really pan out for me. I tend to go the other direction. I'll download some library and just use it as inspiration to create something. The areas that I do use samples more aggressively are quite specific, e.g., vocals, funk guitar rhythms, environmental sounds. Vocals are really the only thing that I struggle to find TBH; and by find, I mean for cheap or free.

The thing with downloading and then canceling is that I'm quite sure that the license agreement covers that contingency. Not that you have a high likelihood of being sued, but, I suspect that you are only licensed to use the sounds in new material while you are subscribed.

For me searching remains an issue as well. But that is mainly because sample libraries tend to have very messy structures and are usually inadequately tagged and fairly unsearchable. I like the way Noiiz attempts to establish some consistency. Even in its current beta state, the plugin appears to be quite successful in helping me find stuff. And because everything is available online I do not have to connect my sample drive which is nice for when I am working on my laptop. I just wish plugin would have a tighter DAW integration. There currently is no host-sync (at least not on the setup I am using) and being able to trigger the selected sample through midi would also be helpful for auditing samples within an existing arrangement imho.

Yeah, that's a real problem. I suspect that they will address that in the future. In the meantime though, it's still not the right solution for the customer so much as it is a vendor's solution. The problem with this sort of thing is that they have to convince other players to get on board, and even if they do, it's not going to replace my existing sample libraries. I have terabytes, literally, and there is so much new stuff all of the time from all over the place that I find intriguing that I can't see myself using their solution as much as they imagine it.

I think that there's a market opportunity here for someone to tackle the problem of DAW independent sample management well and without respect to any particular vendor.
