Reason 9.2

Rack Extensions Expanded

A new generation of Rack Extensions are coming with sample loading and new interface technology.

The latest version of Reason adds sample loading and improved UI to the Rack Extensions toolkit. Reason 9.2 is a free update for all Reason 9 owners. Check out the first instruments to support the new technology in the Propellerhead Shop!

Great. Looks like they have listened to what users have requested for RE's. :) Maybe we will see Serum for Reason then one day? Will also make life much more easy for other deves to port their stuff, with the new hideable panel and widget stuff, if i got it right.

Reason rack as vst. Would it be possible one of these days?...

Post

It's never gonna happen. :D

A Rack Extension that hosts VST's
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I don't think so too. Why would PH establish their own format, and earn on it, just to switch to VST, turn their back on their whole concept, and enter a market they're unarmed to enter? You wouldn't be able to handle VST's like the included, or RE devices anyway.

Now that Blamsoft's Expanse for Reason supports all Serum wavetables and samples, I don't think Duda has much reason to port Serum at this point.

What I hate about Reason's Rack Extensions is that if you already bough some plugins as VST you don't get them for Reason and vice versa which is a total bummer for me. Would be nice if you bought from Reason's Shop D16 Group Decimort, for example, to get the VST and other formats too. That's where Propellerheads lose mostly, most people aren't ok with buying again plugins they already have to be able to use with Reason.

They would have to make agreements about that with many developers first. Way too much work/costs I suppose. Developers have to do the extra work too to output/recode their Vst's to RE format.
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

This is somewhat inaccurate. Some devs do crossgrades for the ported VST-to-RE. Rob Papen is one. There's some others but I can't recall off hand. The bottom line is: this is up to the dev and has nothing to do with Reason or Propellerhead.

There's no indication to suggest it's way too much work/cost, nor a requirement to have agreements with many devs. Again, some devs do it. Rob Papen feels it's worth it, anyway. I'm just talking about crossgrades. Clearly there's work and cost involved in porting! ;)

One of the examples of the improved UI, I am still not blown by the visuals:

I wasn't blaming anyone. I was just saying this problem affects Propellerhead's sales and also for Rack Extensions developers. I know it would be a little more complicated to port from Rack Extension to VST, but I'm mostly interested the other way around for developers that already have a VST version for a plugin that's released on Propellerhead's shop.

Let me give you an example. Let's pretend McDSP haven't released those Rack Extensions and I've bought their plugins which includes these versions VST/AU/AAX, all these in one package, one price. If they release the same plugins on Propellerhead's shop I would have to buy them again to be able to use them in Reason. What I would've liked is for McDSP to provide that for free or for a really small price ($5-10) since not all code has been redone. Also the other way around and here I'm talking about those that start with Reason and want to move or use at the same time another daw.

What I'm asking is for developers that have both versions to provide them without paying the full price. And that's why I think some people, that already are using other daws, avoid trying/switching to Reason because it would mean buying the same stuff again which is quite expensive.

Is that really true though? As far as i know, PH get a share of the sold RE's, right? How would a dev account for a crossgrade, or a free version VST-to-RE? I only know it the other way around, e.g. Synapse offer The Legend free as VST, when you bought it as a RE.
