Zynewave Free - can not set up midi

Hello,
I have installed Zynewave 321 free, and MIDI will not initialize.
When either Coolsoft or Microsoft GS is selected, neither turn blue.
However I can tick on the box to turn it blue, but still no MIDI.
Any suggestions ?
