so i'll make it short.... to U-He Hive lovers...or not...

a long time ago i demo'ed it and was messing around with spire around the same time and never made up my mind about it.... I loved it but always got that feeling.... hmmm do i really need it?!? :help:

I know black friday is gone but does U-He make any deals usually? i have the notion they hardly ever make deals on their synths....

Like i've said i've demo'ed it and demoing it again now and i'm like... hmmm i think i really want this :x
and to finish it off; do you have anything that you feel it could replace hive? in VST world?

You got that right
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

what do you have? what do you want to accomplish?

u_He usually does a deal when they release a new synth, and I think that's about it. Hive is really easy to program and comes with a shedload of presets (about 1500, and my collection is up to about
6,600 now) and quickly became my go-to synth. (I've just bought Serum so that might change.) If you want another Sylenth1-challenger, it might be worth the money.

I see you just put Sylenth1 for sale. You're not happy with it? Hive will be about the same ballpark, feature wise, but sounds a bit different. Do you own Spire?

Some excellent questions have already been asked.

Here's my 2 cents.

Hive, like all U-he products, is a great sounding synth. But it's the only one of their synths that I don't own.

Why?

I don't need it. What it does, I can get from other synths, unlike things like Zebra 2, Bazille and Diva which are really special. Even ACE is special. Hive, for me, is just another Sylenth1, which I also don't have because I don't need it as I have other synths that can do what it does.

So, do you need it?

Probably not. Will it sound great if you get it and give you quality use if you actually use it? Sure. Just like their other synths.

But yeah, some idea of what kind of music you do would better help answer the question because in a vacuum, there's not a lot to go by.

It's light, it sounds great, it's easily your go to -synth for basic synth tasks.. But do you need it? No.
Of course if you don't have any unison subtractive synth then Hive is great option, but there are lots of synths that do that. So basically if you need a light for your cpu unison subtractive.. Then Hive is a great option. Though competition that comes from Dune2 or couple of Tone2 synths are pretty hard. Aaaaand those 2 mentioned last bring more to the table than only subtractive VA.

It is probably competitive with similar synths. I don't have it because I don't think that it's anything special. I buy Uhe synths because they push technology boundaries, I don't think that this really does. I demoed it recently and, personally, I think that it's expensive for that style of synth.

Keep in mind that I really don't use those types of sounds though.

Hive had an intro price of $99.

Owned Hive since it was released, I also own spire since early on. I also own a handful of other instruments. Here's the thing about hive. It's a players instrument that has a very musical sound. Urs made it as his "everyone" instrument that was intended to be something in everyone's rack, but that's not really what came out. You get more options and expectations met with other offerings that give you the "everything" engine. This isn't an "everything" engine. It's for the person that already has it all and wants something specific and unique or for the person that already has some specific sound in mind. Hive is one of my favorites, and it's a lot of other peoples favorite, but it's not what you expect. It's very modular in nature and has a specific use. I really feel like it's a player's instrument. In U-he's attempt to make simplicity they made something that takes some know how. Something that takes someone that knows what they are listening to. You will fall in love with the sound. It's not as simple as appearances though.

I didn't.

The fact that you are wondering if you need it, already is the answer. You don't.
What kind of music do you make? What are you missing?

Post

what i make is kind of psychill/space music (with beats) that kind of stuff.......

https://soundcloud.com/tatsava-news/in-fuel-rats-spirit

so i have sylenth 1 and i know it's in the same ball park but sounds diferent enough and more interesting to the kind of sounds i make and most importantly... it seems to complement/interact with the FX i have gathered over the years much better!

the same reason i'm selling U-He uhbik, other options work better in my workflow

i don't have spire; i was demoing both around the same time but prefer Hive TBH....

That's the deal to me, i have sylenth but Hive hits me the same way Icarus does :help: ..... something about the sound and my workflow/FX's

I'll follow my own advices in these kind of Posts meanwhile.... and ---> Open Cubase -->
