Single rotary encoder daw controller

I am looking for a very simple daw comtroller, just a single encoder and maybe some buttons, to edit the parameter i clicked on... preferably to attach to my macbook next to the touchpad...

I dont mind using the touchpad, its just highly inefficient to use with virtuall nobs and sliders..

I hope anyone has a good suggestion...

Do not get the Powermate if on PC

Drivers haven't been updated in years, I'm not sure it works on current 64 bit Windows, it's control output is stepped, not interpolated.

I made the mistake of getting one a few years ago as a one stop knob for tweaking soft synths etc

Just dug it out to test and it actually works with Win10 native drivers.

Just tried Bidule's HID module to convert the output of my Powermate to midi but not working properly.

Its recognised and I can midi learn a parameter but it doesnt seem to send a full rang of values so all I get is a tiny unusable wiggle

If interested in nob control, check the gearslutz mastering forum for users comments. Consensus is very good I think.

It essentially shows up as a mouse, and therefore controls whatever you mouseover. I got an email the other day from them notifying that they are taking the next batch of orders.

I've since started to use Touchable, else I would order one myself

It's got me thinking how it works... I guess you can have two mice fighting for control at once so you point to the control with your primary mouse (or touchpad) then the nobcontrol, when twizzled, sends a button down and mouse up/down (left/right) commands..?

Makes me want to experiment with a teensy...

Seems that the metal knob is touch sensitive, emulating a mouse button press, after you positioned the mouse pointer with your mouse. Dialing the knob will then emulate a vert or hor movement of a mouse. So you'll have to hold your real mouse still in that time. And lift the hand from the metal knob before moving your mouse again.
This might be working for some daw controls that need fine adjustments. On the other hand it will not work good in several plugins, where the mouse pointer is moving away from the knob while adjusting it. By unhanding the metal knob, the pointer will loose focus to the knob and needs to be repositioned for the next dial.
