Hey guy. anyone using cubase elements 9 as their main DAW?
I'm a music producer doing urban / hip hop music and I'm trying decide if I should get ableton live intro or cubase 9 elements. Cubase seem to have a better track count and a few more features but I just wanted some feedback.

Between live intro and cubase 9 elements I would choose FL Studio...
• I don't speak English "by default", so...
• Small Feature Requests for Bitwig.

I love FL but the MAC alpha crashes to often for me and I rather not use boot camp or deal with windowsRegnas wrote:Between live intro and cubase 9 elements I would choose FL Studio...

I'd choose cubase over live any days, BUT we're doing different things. I am mainly into rock and deals with recordings a lot.
Both DAWs have very different workflow, I'd suggest to demo them and watch youtube vids to see which one fit yours better. IMO, workflow is much more important than bundled contents.

Cubase is the best!
I sold Cubase 7 to go with Cubase 8 Elements which I will be upgrading to Elements 9 I'm certain.
Pro and Artist don't have ANY features beyond what I normally use. The number of instrument slots and effect slots are all fine with Elements which is great with me. Cubase has always been the most expensive software that I use year to year.
By all means, consider Live if you are a mostly live performing musician. Otherwise, Cubase. Cubase has the best compositional tools for studio writing and recording, mixing and mastering. Live only wins at live performing tricks I've noticed. Of which it has a lot, but I have always been more to the side of writing and releasing.

Bear in mind Sidechain compression not native to cubase elements, it's achilles heel for EDM production. There are workarounds but why oh why is it not native to elements.

The things I missed the most in Cubase Elements(7/8) I had was track lanes when doing loop recording, so clips ended up on top of each other. But just dragged them over to a track below, so not a showstopper.
Otherwise pretty good value.
But went for Pro in the end to get the headroom I like to have.

Yep. Biggest reason i upgraded to Artist in the end. IMO, OP is better off buying a used copy of Cubase Artist, or, Studio One.devilnishy wrote:Bear in mind Sidechain compression not native to cubase elements, it's achilles heel for EDM production. Interesting. You got a Mac but you are not considering Logic Pro? Would love to hear why.strangemediagroup wrote: I love FL but the MAC alpha crashes to often for me ...

I'd definitely demo both. They are so different in their approach that it makes a rather big difference in how you make music.
So I wouldn't look at track count etc alone.
And yes, if you prefer the workflow of Cubase, you might just as well look at Logic, at 200, it's a steal. But again, different animal than Live.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I went with cubase elements and love it!
I won't ever be using side chaining.
Also I already have Logic Pro X but It doesn't fit my workflow. I use a lot of drum samples and I like to just quickly load them into a simple sampler which is what really pulled me in with the new sampler track in cubase. In logic using the EPX24 sampler is a pain and it's ugly lol

Though I typically use full Cubase versions, I wouldn't have a problem using Elements because I don't actually use many advanced features that the full versions have. I installed a demo of Elements on my low spec notebook to check it out. I haven't actually used it to record, but from the looks of it, it appears that it'll work fine for what I do.
As a VST System Link (VSL) user, I'm considering Elements for a dedicated 64 bit VSTi PC. Currently I'm using older Cubase versions on Win XP 32 bit slaves, hosting all my older 32 bit VSTi's, and a newer Cubase version on my main powerful Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC. Unless I find a used full 64 bit Cubase version for cheap, it makes more sense to get Elements for a 64 bit System Linked slave PC.
