I've always felt that this product was a bit off in some sense. I've not done any deep analysis, but, I'm not really surprised that they're now looking at a licensing strategy. I could probably write a bit more it would just be speculation really so I'll keep it to myself for now. I'll just say though that I've always felt that their hardware was way overpriced.

Nah, it was the shizzle in the olden day. Not many could afford it and like anything hardware it had it's limits.
Terrific idea, killed off by computers and such, again, RIP.

Yeah, but that's kind of what I mean. I remember when they came out, they were always too expensive unless you really needed it. The thing is though, they were simply PCs with what amounts to a customized copy of linux, a proprietary application, and a front panel. They can song and dance around that all that they want but that was well known from the beginning. Consequently, they were never MORE powerful than current computers from an audio point of view because they were always, essentially, a "current computer."incubus wrote:Nah, it was the shizzle in the olden day. They should have been killed off by computers really, why spend more for a computer than you would for a computer?
They are basically reselling commodity hardware and have to make a profit off of that. I have often wondered if a different business model would have been better? In short, they haven't managed to be Apple. I'd like to see someone license their technology to make a rack mountable USB front panel that plugs into any PC at a fairly low price, maybe $300 or so.

Still, if you think about it, not saying anything against that, if it was a "deal" in that you could actually run plugs at something that doesn't cause latency and allows you to be "offine" or whatever, it would rock.
I have a pretty good computer base. It would STILL be terrific if I had a way to offload that CPU hit and never worry about it.
The problem is that the hardware company (i.e., muse) has to worry about compatibility and so on w/o the funds to keep up. So, there you are.

I never saw them as a true hardware company, because all their development was in a software platform... they just used the hardware to make money on that software...ghettosynth wrote:Yeah, but that's kind of what I mean. Now all there is left is the software... which prooves the hardware was nothing but an empty shell..

Shame theyre not licencing the software to end users.....that would be groundbreaking.
Even if they felt the need to protect it with iLok or somesuch so them dastardly freeloaders couldnt spoil the party.

RIP.
Wrong, the KVR website and community existed years before it was taken over by Muse.

"THE reason" is not "THE reason", capitalized or not, that KVR exists.VariKusBrainZ wrote:Read the word just before the capitalised THEecdysis wrote:"THE reason kvr was made"VariKusBrainZ wrote:Native English speakers would realise he is not stating what you think.ecdysis wrote:FAKE NEWS ALERTincubus wrote:The thing is, that is if not THE reason kvr was made, it's at least part of it's history.

Muse has nothing to do with the initial concept or creation of KVR.
...Furthest from the truth....
The history they have is, it was purchased and ran after many years of having "THE reason" for existing.

This native english speaker has no clue what he was trying to say. It's a disaster of a sentence.VariKusBrainZ wrote:Native English speakers would realise he is not stating what you think.ecdysis wrote:FAKE NEWS ALERTincubus wrote:The thing is, that is if not THE reason kvr was made, it's at least part of it's history.
