What's up board?
I'm interested in learning techniques of IDM style sample looping and tweaking. I own reaktor, but so far I can't find a suitable ensemble to do what I want. Can anyone give me some advice on what programs or techniques to use? Here's an example of an artist that uses the musical style I speak of: http://www.planet-mu.com/ziq086.htmlI don't want to bite anyone's style, but I am interested in the techniques used.
thanks in advance...

download audiomulch http://www.audiomulch.com and
all plugins from the smartelectronix site. together with reaktor you are set.
once and for all
the only thing left is time to turn every knob / twealk every parameter in these proggies.

Also check out Didier Leiboz's stuff in the user library (and some older ensembles on his site too). Having listened to several of the pieces you referred to the sort of shifting scratchy rythmns in the background can be done with Reaktor such as Leiboz's Dubspace ensembles combined with some "real" instruments and samples.

essential for tweaking beats in an idm-like style i would recommend the freewareplugz from TWEAKBENCH like MASHUP, SIDESLIP and PUDDING: these three plugz do 'slice' audio-tracks in realtime and mangle 'em by pitching and delaying, playing with the random-knobs do a pretty fine job for weird results. Also quite interesting are these plugins from xoxos: GUM and SMOKEY JOE as well as his amazing (www.xoxos.net/vsti.html) BREAKS-Sampler, all of these three plugs mangle sounds in a very rythmic and unusual way, perfect tools for glitches and clicks, cuts and IDM-styled muzak. the already mentioned hint concerning the smatzelectronix-site is a platintip, feel free to download plugz like the buffer override or ktgranulator and enjoy playing around with the presets to get out afx'like and squarepusher-like glitches and freezes. oh, by the way, there's also a quite nice FREEZE-plugin within the GRM-package, but it's payware. not quite inexpensive is the DOPPELMANGLER plugin from whitenoiseaudio: it's THE perfect resynthesis-tool for creating abstract noizes, to mangle and re-design beats, it's pure fun loading any kind of .wave to it to mangle it in quite unusual ways. for slicing loops and sounds to create perfect pianorolls and glitches check out the 4-channel auto-loop-slicer called REFLEX from www.basementarts.de - FUNKSTÖRUNG do LOVE that plugin and provided a bunch of amazing samples with the lbrary included in REFLEX! it's smiliar to NI's intakt but more usable because of the cute drag&drop-features. Oh, and i really love that lil' freewaretool called BUFFERSYNTH, it's AMAZING to mangle audiotracks thru midi and to pitch and break and freeze em to wicked glitches. Oli Larkins GRAINFREEZE is also worth to check out to mangle beats and sounds by triggering the freeze-feature thru midi. SmartPlugz like the SLOPER will also do a very good job for IDM-like glitches... so, have fun by downloading, installing and playin' around with these plugz!
