Hi all,

With the latest release of Ardour DAW earlier today, I bring you a new release of zam-plugins !

These plugins are 100% free software, free as in freedom, which means you can download and share the source code. However, as it takes a lot of effort to develop, I charge a small fee for binaries for OSX and Windows. Feel free to check out http://www.zamaudio.com for more information.

Please try out the plugins and leave me some feedback, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Looks good. Is a demo available?

Post

Unfortunately, no demo versions available. If you want to test only feel free to email me and I'll send you one or two at no charge. (Contact on the website in above post). Cheers

Cheers and welcome,
bundle offers a lot of plugins, to test them I vouch for a bundle demo as well
as by experience some of a bundle may be very good and others could need a touch up.

Omkar: These plugins are used extensively on the GNU/Linux OS by many people and have been under development since around 2010. The DSP on each plugin has gone through a number of complete rewrites to obtain clarity in the sound. The main benefit is that I am providing the full source code so people can improve the sound quality if they want to. I don't really like the idea of creating restricted versions that time-out after a while just for demo purposes. Such versions are annoying for users. I'm not asking much for the whole lot when you consider how much work went into it. That said, I'm also happy to send a few links by email to people who want to try them before purchase.

Why not make videos? :)

GeorgeZ: Thanks, am considering doing that.

If you don't want demo versions you should consider to put a few plugins of the bundle for testing purpose free on your website for all. Imo this would increase the interest of the public. Good luck! :tu:

It is something of a complete nonsense to say that Demos that time out are an annoyance to user when you are comparing to no Demo whatsoever.
No demo means no testing means no sale, for a lot of people, and no disrespect, but your UIs do not scream out buy me, so they exist entirely on their sound, which means demos for the entire package.

...I do a agree. Also, I would NEVER buy a plugin that doesn't have demo or at the very least demo audio (although, I'm not massively keen on that only.... hook me with the audio, so I try the demo).

@zamaudio: re: It's linux tested and this and that and source code etc etc, honestly, no one gives a shit about all that, from a dev point of view yes, sure, that's all important, but from a user point of view: don't know what it sounds like, therefor not interested: PASS.

You have to realize, you're jumping into a niche, but heavily over-saturated marketplace, so if you make it even slightly harder than someone else, for people to test / hear your product, you likely won't have success, as people are lazy and will go for the easy route ie. the devs with the demos and the audio. BTW, the "email me and send you some s bla bla....", nobody does that, it's a pain in the ass. I want to demo when I am at my PC and it's convenient for me, not when your email arrives.

I feel you may know this already, but you need to hear /read it, I think. My personal opinion, and it's just opinion: You don't want to maintain two sets of plugins: demo(restricted) and full version. You noted "Such versions are annoying for users", and I'll call it what it is: Complete and utter bullshit... and you know it. You download a demo knowing it's likely to timeout (note it on the demo UI or on product page). There's nothing annoying about that.

Please please please don't take any of ^^^^ personal. It' purely observation, and meant to help. I've been around for a while working with devs and have learned a thing or two over the years. Good luck ;) :phones: :tu:

Good stuff :) Q re ZamTube: Are those models based on impulses or modeled or....? Also, is that supposed to be used as a after effect (in your example, guitar), re guitar>>PC>>Amp model VST>>into cab impulse>> ZamTube (ie just a distortion / saturation VST, basically)? Or is ZamTube the amp model VST?

GeorgeZ: There is a main tube preamp circuit simulation inside the plugin, and they run into a model of tonestacks for different amps, based on the actual passive components found in those guitar amps. So to answer your question, you basically run raw guitar into the plugin, then use your favourite cabinet impulse stacked after that, (plus a little bit of reverb sounds good). ZamTube is a tube distortion plugin, one day I might add cabinet impulses built in, but for now, it sounds okay to me. :D
