Hi, am thinking of getting some proper monitor speakers for my bedroom studio setup, but am on a fairly tight budget. I'm looking for a pair of active monitors for around £250-£350 (i.e. around $550 or 450 Euros) or so, but ideally nearer the £300 or less mark. If it makes any difference, the room is reasonably large, so tiny monitors probably won't do, but I don't want huge beasts either

I've been told (by a local music equipment shop) that the Yamaha MSP5 speakers are very good, but these come in at about £400 a pair retail, which is a bit much for me. More info on them here:

I'm also considering the M-Audio BX5 (or the bigger BX8) Studiophile, Near-Field Reference Monitors (about £250 / pair)http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=pro ... 09a317579a

Also possibly the Tannoy Reveal Actives, which are about £350 a pair

Does anyone have any other suggestions for decent monitors around this price point?

regards

Paul

I'm pretty happy with my MSP5, which I got there for well under £400.

I also use the MSP5s. They'll never be confused with Genelecs, but I think they're good value for the money.

Reveals are good. But the newer breed of monitors are probably better - fostex, mackie tapco. . . stuff like that.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.
