As per the title, soon I will have some spare time - this is mainly down to me undergoing an operation on my knee and having to take time off work to recover. I see this time as an opportunity to have a crack at producing music like I've always wanted to. The only problem being that I don't know where to start! The music I'd like to produce is 2-step, house and garage - what program would you recommend for this?
I've played around with Reason and FL in the past but as I say I don't know where to start. I will also need to buy a laptop to run this program on without lagging etc.
I'm thinking of buying something like this:

Would this be suitable?
In short:
- I'm thinking of producing music (2-step, garage, house etc) what program would you recommend?
- Is the below laptop suitable for this application?
