Is it me or does anyone else feel that this is the absolute hieght of arrogance and lack of practical application that they require an internet connection to activate their software and shut down the forum and forced people to facebook or twitter for answers?

I decided that keeping my rig offline was by far the best way to prevent interuptions while recording and optimizing my desktop from unnecessary background services and automatic updating. I realize that desktops are on the way out however I and a good portion of us will still plunk away on em till the absolute end.

Why doesn't this company or other so-called "Leading edge" outfits undetstand this? I guess we need to get with the program and die off with the Dinosaurs. I may be over reacting but when will someone stand up and yell STOP, not everyone is on the net in the meeting that decides these things.

Closing off their forum with the excuse that it's out of date is completely ridiculous, not everyone is addicted to Facebook or glomming on Twitter feeds.

Old fartdom I guess but I pine for the good ol days of customer support, ya know, a forum and offline activation.

Thanks for reading. :(

you can also use ilok to activate - which means you can do the license move to the physical ilok on your network connected machine and then just plug the ilok into your offline machine

I should have mentioned I don't use ilok nor any pace software. I guess they can rest the laurels that option is there if one REALLY wants to use their software.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the rant but in a last dieing gasp I think I my have to live with version 2 for as long as l can, Copy protection schemes not withstanding.

It is the wave of the future, I guess. XLN Audio also removed their forums. I don't agree with these policies, but when I've had issues, I've always gotten quick replies from support.

fair enuogh, plenty of people dislike ilok.

Only other option would be to connect your offline machine just for long enough to authorise (getting harder to be offline all the time really - things like XLNs online only installer is another example of a company that presumes everything is online)

as for companies ditching their forums - seems a general trend, think it's a combination of the hassle of maintaining/moderating them, and the dislike of 'bad PR' when people go on rants on them (which seems to the other trend amongst companies that do still have forums - delete anything that's not 'your product is wonderful' :D )

Which I acknowledged in the OP, I'm a Dinosaur. As far as Support by email contsct that is also an option if the question with the software as registered and activated.

I guess I'll go down swinging on this one.

I thought of this too(temporary online connection) but i removed all the services that will allow that.

Your right about forums though they tend to tow the corporate line but then they are an extention of such. The more I read in this thread the more I sense I'm the odd ball in my own rant. :hihi:

No, I don't like the developments you are ranting about either, but the only thing ya can do is boycott the software, and tell the company why you are doing so. I just accept the fact that if I want to use these tools, I have to do it their way. I complained to both Celemony and XLN Audio about their M.O., and they basically just shrugged.

As for having my DAW computer hooked up to the net, my DAW doesn't seem to mind.

Perhaps they made the conscious decision not to want to have dinosaurs as part of their target user-base - which would be fair enough.

Yeah this seems the case in almost all cases in the 21st century. Get off the stage grampa and except defeat.

I guess this is more of an lament than a request since I can't complain on their forum I brought it here to KVR hoping there some in the same opinion... Or not.

I can't be the only stubborn fossil around here and the replies so far are not unreasonable.

Maybe they don't want you to get off the stage but just to not touch the flux capacitor while it's fully charged? Why not just sitting there on a comfy chair and jamming along with your banjo and be happy that your gout is not too bad today? (Only when you sing along please be careful that your false teeth do not start rocketing off towards the audience.)

If I'm complaining I'm not dead yet and if I pick up a Banjo the other Banjo players I have rediculed over the decades will surely have a feild day with me... Not a chance of that my friend.
