Yeah, I know you're all thinking I've lost my mind but I'm serious. I have a copy and paste question.

Here is the scenario.

I have a 64 bar piece of music. I just created a bass riff that's one bar long. I want to copy that one bar to the remaining 63 bars.

Up until now, this is how I've been doing it.

I'd copy bar 1 to bar 2. I'd then copy bars 1 and 2 and paste to bars 3 and 4. I'd then copy bars 1 through 4 and paste to bars 5 through 8 and so on until I reached all 64 bars.

I went to YouTube. I looked through the Cubase manual. I can't find anything.

Isn't there a way to take that one bar and through some combination of keys or something, copy and paste that one bar, one time so that it goes all the way to bar 64?

You would think something that's this common would have a shortcut way to do this. If there is, I can't find it.

Is there such a shortcut or do I have to keep doing things the way I'm doing them?

(Assuming you are current version) On the MIDI event on the right side in the middle is a little square. Click on it and drag.

I must be doing something wrong because it's not working. Also, I'm still on Cubase 7. I assume they had this functionality in that version as well.

Edit -> Functions -> Repeat (i hope it's called like that in the english Cubase), and then typing in 63 times should do the same i think. Or, Ctrl + K key.

I wasn't aware of the method SJ Digriz explained either, that's very handy!

The trick is to hit the hotspot of the event in question. SJ moves the mouse to the middle "block" and then drags the events.

Basically, dive into the manual and look for "Duplicate Events". CTRL+D is the hotkey. Though the drag method while holding shift makes it a "Shared Copy Event" (has an = symbol in each event), that means... you edit one event, and all "shared copies" change the same way.

Works since C5 IIRC btw
