I attended a wedding a few weeks ago in which the entire evening was filled with EDM "dance music".
We were asked on the invitation what kind of music we would like the DJ to play, but that was ignored for a wonderful evening of very loud EDM "dance music".
Except EDM is not danceable to.
Unless you happen to be a teenager of course.
Soul,Motown Pop,Disco now thats dance music.
EDM - Bah.

Depends on what you mean by EDM. I'm hardly a teenager and I just got home from a house music event where I danced my ass off...
House music....aka....modern disco....

I am a Full Time wedding DJ at a very busy Wedding Venue... EDM music at a wedding has its place and I use it as a chaser but you honestly cannot push EDM for more than 15 mins at atime otherwise you will marginalise the guests... I prefer to play a full variety of genres according to the likes and wants of the crowd... the differance between a wedding DJ and a EDM Festival or Club DJ is in your purpose of work and business... a EDM dj caters for his own needs ( yeah jump jump you mo.... ers, jump ....kinda nonsense) and He dictates the music whereas a Wedding DJ caters to the clients needs and for the guests to have a great time with music that they can relate too and socialise with... so a Wedding DJ has to be flexible, tactfull and smart and yet still be able to string his mixing like a festival dj to keep his music flowing....dellboy wrote:I attended a wedding a few weeks ago in which the entire evening was filled with EDM "dance music".

If we take house music as mid 80s,you would have been mid teens,so you are roughly 45 years old.ghettosynth wrote:Depends on what you mean by EDM. I'm hardly a teenager and I just got home from a house music event where I danced my ass off...

This is based on my rule that the music of our teenage years stays with us for life as the best music ever made.
To my ears,it is just a repetive beat with samples thrown in. Not what I would like to listen or dance to.

Was the bride hot?
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Thanks for your balanced reply.
I attended a wedding last summer where the DJ played a large range of music, thereby encouraging more people to get onto the dance floor.
This latest wedding anyone over 45-ish stayed sat down as EDM was all that the DJ played.

That is not remotely connected to disco.ghettosynth wrote: House music....aka....modern disco....
He aint no Giorgio Moroder.
Disco was repetive synth music put to good use.
That is repetive dissonance.
This new track by Jamiroquai has that original disco vibe and shows synths put to good use .......
