is this the Sonar console/tapedeck in VST format?
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Sort of...according to Overloud, the console emulator is an improved version of the one they made for prochannel, but the tape machine emulation is new. In addition, they plan to add more console and tape emulations to this.

Kind of:

"...the console emulation into the Tapedesk is based on the Console Emulator into SONAR with some improvements on sound processing: the tape machine emulation is newly developed. If you are happy with the current components into Sonar there is no need for you to get the TAPEDESK as well. However it may become interesting for you in the future when we will add new console and tape models.

Kind Regards,
Thomas - Overloud Support"

It sounds better to me than the Sonar modules. And the CPU hit is next to nothing, enabling its use on all tracks if so desired. Easy to set up and use, with good metering and straightforward controls. Nice work from Overloud.

Cheers,

The gui is certainly OverLoud!! :scared:

When overdriven Tapedesk exhibit some funky clipping.

The lower part of waveform gets completely squashed/flat, while the upper part of waveform gets through relatively unprocessed. I know some hardware gear have inherent asymmetrical saturation curve, but I've never seen such a extreme case.

Is this supposed to happen, or is some kind of bug.
I mean it sounds good, but it feels wrong looking at such a weird waveform.
I overall like it, I must admit.

Post

I like it overall as well, not really sold on it as yet. I have the other
2 gem plugins, my favorite so far, is the eq. Comparing it to satin, its
not much of a tape machine imho.

But it does sound pretty good...

can you bypass the desk stages?
Intel Core2 Quad CPU + 4 GIG RAM

Post

You can bypass the console, the tape or both actually.

Post

TAPEDESK has been updated with a 30 ips tape speed setting, which I felt was an odd omission at release.

Nevertheless, Overloud promptly delivered.

For me, it's like a bad copy of a Waves Plugin. Glad I tried the DEMO.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Makes me wonder if Toneboosters Reelbus had impressive graphics, would it be as well-regarded as, say, Slate VTM....
